Mridanga issues

Mridanga issues that can be solved
  • Broken or cracked clay body (2-5 hours for repair)
  • Loosen straps or skins (tightening them up) (1-2 hours)
  • Replacing unsafe Indian belt hangers with solid ones (2 hours)
  • Adding the lost (or non-existing) anti-buzzing thread to the bass skin side (10 minutes)
Mridanga issues that can NOT be solved by me
  • Cracked skins (unless the crack is very small and the patch can be improvised).
  • Replacing existing skins with new ones
  • Regeneration of thin clay layers (masala) on both skin sides

Note: It is not my specialty, but sometimes I can help with some accordions, tampuras etc.

It is important to mention that not only bad/dysfunctional harmoniums and mridangas can be repaired, but good instruments can be improved to work and sound even better than new. :)
